Hmm I don’t really know the original for that.
Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails
Hurt is the obvious one that comes to mind for me.

The obvious answers are:
“I Will Always Love You” (Whitney Houston cover of Dolly Parton)
“You Keep Me Hangin On” (Kim Wilde cover of Diana Ross)
“Killing Me Softly” (Fugees cover of Roberta Black)
Another good one:
Alanis Morissette’s cover of Fergie’s “My Humps”

Chris cornell covering Nothing Compares 2 you. I'll also take his version of I will always love you.

Relient K’s covers of Africa and Everyone Wants To Rule The World are both better than their respective original versions.
I am prepared to fight over this.

Metallica - I could put half of Garage, Inc. Here. But let’s go with “Whiskey in the Jar.”
Far - Pony
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
No Doubt - It’s My Life
Foo Fighters - Down In the Park
Weezer - Africa
Muse - Feeling Good
Johnny Cash - Hurt (obligatory)
Gary Jules - Mad World

A couple m
ore that I can think of right now:
Dr. Dog’s version of Heart it Races is better than the original.
Interrrupters cover of Bad Guy is Better than Billie Eilish

Hot Take: Weezer’s Africa cover isn’t very good and is vastly inferior to Relient K’s cover of that song.

I would have went with Rufus Wainwright or KD Lang’s version of Hallelujah because Tom Waits hasn’t done one yet. :)
I agree on anything from Garage Days Re-Visited

I personally prefer Tom Petty’s version of Feel a Whole Lot Better over the Byrds’ version.

Here’s the original. I also like Elton’s live version in Sydney. I love Elton’s version, but gotta say Brandi’s is pretty darn good, too.

Personally I would go Dolly, Vanilla Fudge, Fugees

have you heard his cover of U2's one using Metallica’s lyrics.
But to be fair he could sing toaster oven instructions and give you chills.

I think the Mazda version of the Spitfire was better than Triumphs.
Also,
Triumph’s cover of a
Joe Walsh song
, though not necessarily better. Just trying to stay on tangent.

Yes to both statements

I’m probably going to get lit up for this but...

Weezer’s guitar riff is more powerful than Relient K’s, it’s supposed to be a rock anthem whereas Relient K’s cover is just a song.

I’ve got a boatload more but they’re all jam-band related that most folks would disagree with.

I don’t think hurt even counts as a cover, pretty sure trent reznor was just like that’s a johnny cash song now.

I'll throw out Second Band's (my favorite/only Slovakian blues band) does a fantastic cover of the Stone's it's all over now. They slow it down a bit a play it a blues song with a killer harp out front. I don't have link handy, but it was out there on Free Music Archive where I came across it.
